Dependent children of Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens can apply to join their parents permanently in Australia. Children should be the biological or stepchild of the sponsoring parent. There are also specific visas available for adoption of children from overseas. For children adopted by Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible NZ citizen parents will need to apply for an Adoption visa. The sponsoring parent must also complete an application to be assessed by immigration. This application is to determine that the parent is an eligible citizen or resident and meets the character criteria to sponsor.
