Australia’s Migration System Reforms Announced

Australia’s Migration System Reforms Announced

As the new fiscal year approaches, changes are coming to Australia’s migration system. The government plans to spend $18.3 million over the next four years, starting in 2024-25, to improve the system, boost the economy, and ensure fairness.

A big part of this budget, $15.0 million over three years, will go towards helping migrant workers understand their rights and protections at work. This means providing clear information about workplace rules and safeguards to ensure they are treated fairly and know their responsibilities.

Additionally, $1.9 million will be used in 2024-25 for a new project where the Department of Home Affairs will work with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). This project will match income and employment data to prevent the exploitation of migrant workers and misuse of the migration system.

These changes show the government’s commitment to a fair and prosperous society, ensuring the migration system benefits everyone involved. Stay tuned for more updates as these initiatives begin to shape the future of Australia’s migration landscape.
