Launch of the Western Australia Designated Area Migration Agreement Program

Launch of the Western Australia Designated Area Migration Agreement Program

The Western Australian Government has successfully negotiated the establishment of a new Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) with the Commonwealth Government to address labour shortages in key areas across the state.

This program will greatly benefit employers by expanding the list of occupations eligible for skilled migration and offering special concessions for those in the Perth Metro area.

The WA DAMA will be the fifth DAMA for Western Australia, complementing the existing Goldfields, Kimberley, Pilbara and South West DAMAs.

Employers should use the local DAMA if it covers the needed occupation. If the local DAMA doesn’t cover it, they can turn to the WA DAMA.

AVAILABLE CONCESSIONS

 Work Experience Concessions:

  • Have at least one (1) year of relevant full-time or part-time pro rata equivalent work experience for the TSS visa program; or
  • Have at least two (2) years of relevant full-time or part-time pro rata equivalent work experience for the SESR or ENS visa programs, where the nominated worker will be living and working in Regional Western Australia; or
  • Have at least three years (3) of relevant full-time work experience or part-time pro rata equivalent work experience for the SESR or ENS visa programs, where the nominated worker will be living and working in Metropolitan Perth.

Age Concession:

  • Increased age limit for visa applicants from 45 to 55 years.
  • English Language Proficiency:
  • The minimum English language requirement is IELTS 5.0.
  • Skill Level 1-2 occupations: No concession.
  • Skill Level 3-4 occupations (TSS/SESR): IELTS 5.0 with no minimum band score.
  • Skill Level 3-4 occupations (ENS): IELTS 5.0 with no individual band score lower than 4.0.

Note: Some occupations may not qualify for concessions due to client-facing roles, workplace health and safety concerns, or higher registration and licensing English requirements.

This initiative is expected to support WA employers by easing labour shortages and providing greater access to skilled workers.
