Short-term TSS SC 482 visa holders now able to apply for a third TSS visa

Short-term TSS SC 482 visa holders now able to apply for a third TSS visa

The Government has removed the “onshore renewal restriction” requirement for the short-term stream Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Subclass 482 visa holders who stayed in Australia during the pandemic.

This recent Migration Regulations amendment now allows these sponsored visa holders to apply for a third onshore short-term stream TSS visa for applicants who remained inside Australia during the pandemic..

Because of this, applicants are given more time to stay in Australia and meet nomination requirements for an Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) subclass 186 visa under the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream.

There are also provisions for those short-term stream Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Subclass 482 visa holders who stayed on during the pandemic to be able to access permanent residency through the subclass 186 transitional visa program starting 1 July 2022.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • have held not more than two short-term stream TSS visas
  • have been in Australia between 1 February 2020 and 14 December 2021 for at least one year while holding a short-term stream TSS visa
  • meet all other requirements for the ENS 186 TRT visa

Applicants must ensure they submit the further TSS application before 1 July 2023.
