TRA now requires in-person OSAP/TSS Technical interviews

Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) has returned to the need for Technical Assessments to be conducted in person at approved assessment centres.

As a requirement, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will only conduct Technical Assessments (Technical Interviews) for the Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP) and Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Skills Assessment at an approved assessment centre.

Therefore, applicants will also be required to attend assessment venues in person for their Technical Assessment completion. An iPad will be provided in a private room and the assessor and invigilator will conduct the interview via Zoom meeting remotely.

It is important to understand that you may need to travel some distance to attend your technical interview to finalise your skill assessment.

TRA mentioned they will “consider individual requests for online assessment only if the applicant can demonstrate extenuating reasons for an exemption from a face to face assessment.”

The safety of assessors and participants, movement restrictions or COVID-related health issues are the main factors to be considered in deciding whether a request for an exemption will be granted.

TRA has specifically advised that inconvenience is not a reason that will support an exemption in its own right.

For any concerns, you can contact TRA directly at 1300 360 992 or +61 2 6240 8778 or via [email protected]
